From online reports, the directing slot for Wolverine 2 has been wittled down to two names – David Slade (30 Days of Night and Hard Candy) and Robert Schwentke.
High Jackman is already in talks with the two potential directors, mostly to see who can do the best job, we hope!
Christopher McQuarrie has already penned a script for the film based on the adventures of Wolverine in Japan, predominently based around Wolverine falling for a woman already attached to a very dangerous man (cue the Samurai and his armour from the comics?) Once a director is in place, filming is said to start around January.
I think whoever takes the directing chair, they need to be faithful to the comic storylines. This was one of the main gripes with Wolverine: Origins film. The storyline was quite precious to Wolverine fans and they wanted the film to be done right/faithful to the story. It was mostly, but those story ‘enhancements’ or adaptions for film did nothing for the main bulk of the crowd paying to see the film – the longtime X-Men fans. (personally, it was fine up until the adamantium op. where the film took on its own storyline.)
Comic/graphic novel storylines have enough film script juice for decades of this genre of films, so why much about with the storylines, especially when fans know the stories so well and expect that story?
